Introducing This Blog

Hello, and welcome to my blog- The Other Side of the Fourth Wall. This post will attempt to explain a few things about my blog- what it's about, why I'm writing it and what you can expect out of it.

The blog will mainly be about some of my favorite works of fiction and other entertainment- books, movies, video games, anime, manga and other such things. It will also go into related topics, such as fan reactions to them, how people interpret various works of fiction and other such things.

You may wonder why I'm writing a blog on this subject at a time like this. The coronavirus has spread across the world and killed thousands. The vast majority of people are quarantined in their homes in an attempt to curtail the spread of the virus. As a result of that, the economy is in a recession, causing many to lose their jobs and many others who'd been out of work when it hit, myself included, to struggle finding jobs. The healthy feel a variety of things, from loneliness and boredom to fear and despair, but no one is happy about the situation.

So why write about fiction and other relatively lighthearted topics at a time like this? It's for the same reason many websites and other publications post articles about good entertainment that you and your family can enjoy in the comfort of your own homes now that you can't go out to the movies or do many other things that are no longer possible in a time like this.  It's also for the same reason that an op-ed in The New York Times advised that video games can help serve as a form of escapism. It's because when times are difficult, when the news is bad and promises to be even worse, it can often help to escape your problems for a little while.

I will publish short essays and informational pieces on a variety of subjects, and hope to do so a few times each week. You should think of this as less of a concrete promise and more of a goal that I try to reach, since this blog is mainly a diversion for me and a way to practice my writing skills. As such, while the day may come when I lose interest in it, I will continue as long as I want to, rather than perfunctorily churn out entries simply because it's my job.

That's all for now. I hope you stay safe and healthy, and enjoy this blog.
