Danganronpa Bingo

Many Danganronpa stories, both canon and fan fiction, have similar story structures, plot developments and other fandom-specific tropes. I came up with a bingo board so you can mark off the tropes you see in any given story, and see if you can get five horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

Here are a few points to consider before you view the board.

  1. The letters are columns and the numbers are rows, respectively top to bottom and left to right. For example, A1 is the top left corner, E4 is the the right edge of the second row from the bottom, and C3 is the center.
  2. The Protagonist refers to whoever is the protagonist at the end of the fic.
  3. Feel free to mix up the spaces as you wish if you aren't getting anywhere with the current layout.
  4. Lastly, keep in mind that there will be spoilers for all three canon games, especially when I give examples.
Without further ado, here's the board. Play it with your favorite Danganronpa game or fanfic, and see if you can get a bingo!

A1.The third class trial involves two victims, who may or may not have been killed by the same person.

A2.An early murder becomes relevant to a later case (Mukuro in the first game, Rantaro in the second game)

A3.A character who seems like an almost certain killer refrains from killing and survives (Byakuya, Fuyuhiko, Maki)

A4.At least one character notices the similarity between this killing game and a previous one.

A5.A trial involves an obvious frame job (Makoto for Sayaka's murder, Kaito for Miu's murder)

B1.Someone who's thought to be the mastermind/traitor or is otherwise suspicious is killed in the fifth chapter (Mukuro, Nagito, Kokichi)

B2.The first victim is someone who's seemingly important (Sayaka is Makoto's love interest, "Byakuya" seems to be a survivor of the first killing game, and Rantaro later turned out to be a previous participant in a killing game).

B3.The story features at least one nonbinary or transgender character (Chihiro does not count)

B4.At least one murder strongly resembles one from a canon installment.

B5.At least one character has an unrequited love toward another and makes unwelcome advances (Toko toward Byakuya, Kazuichi toward Sonia, Tenko toward Himiko).

C1.The protagonist is significantly more ordinary than most of their peers (Makoto, Hajime, to some extent Shuichi)

C2.Most of the killings involve the killer being of the same gender as the victim.

C3. Free space.

C4.A secondary character's love interest gets killed off (Gundham for Sonia, Kaito for Maki)

C5.At least one character has exactly the same talent as someone in a previous game (Nagito for Makoto, Shuichi for Kyoko. "Byakuya" does not count, since his true identity is the Ultimate Impostor.)

D1.At least one of the murders is recognizably similar to a previously released game.

D2.Five people survive the killing game.

D3.Someone who lost a friend to a previous murder or execution is killed later (Kiyotaka, Hiyoko)

D4.At least one of the victims had already killed someone (Hifumi) or was trying to kill someone (Sayaka, Miu) at the time of their death.

D5.The story has a female protagonist, who survives until the end of the fic (unlike Kaede).

E1.The protagonist's love interest is killed off. (Chiaki for Hajime, Kaede for Shuichi, possibly Sayaka for Makoto)

E2.At least one murder is carried out with an extremely unusual weapon (e.g. toilet paper).

E3.A character is convicted for a murder they didn't actually commit (Makoto, Kaede)

E4.A character is technically responsible for a murder but doesn't can't be punished for it (Fuyuhiko indirectly causing Mahiru's murder).

E5.The apparent main protagonist is killed off and replaced with the actual protagonist, like Kaede for Shuichi in V3.
